EDGE — Prestige Cohort Ecosystem

Transforming high-performing students into an elite, invite-only community through gamification, personalized tracking, and School Learning Index (SLI).

EdTech Gamification Prestige Psychology Cohort Learning
Coschool's "The Edge" is an elite, invite-only cohort experience designed to transform high-performing students into a prestigious community. By shifting the platform's value proposition from a utility "study tool" to an aspirational "status symbol," we aimed to drive high-value conversions and long-term retention through personalization, accountability, and gamification.

The Challenge: The "Commodity Trap"

Despite having a functional platform, Coschool was viewed as a utility — something students used when necessary, but didn't feel emotionally invested in. This led to:

Low Conversion

Parents saw subscriptions as a recurring bill rather than an investment in their child's academic future.

Churn Risk

Students lacked a "North Star" or a reason to stay once specific homework tasks were completed.

The Mission

Create a high-performance environment that justifies premium pricing, drives daily active engagement, and fosters deep psychological buy-in.

02

User Research & Behavioral Insights

I led competitor analysis and cohort studies with 15 school leaders to understand the cultural significance of "Special Batches" in education.

Aspiration is the Strongest Driver

Parents and students in this demographic are heavily motivated by status, recognition, and academic exclusivity.

Accountability over Content

High-performers don't just want "more" content; they want better feedback and a way to measure their growth against their peers.

The FOMO Factor

Exclusive features create a "loss aversion" effect. If a student risks losing their "Elite" status, they engage more consistently.

Tangible Parent Reports

Parents need transparent, easy-to-digest growth metrics rather than complicated raw marksheets.

The Strategy & Psychological Levers

To achieve the business objectives, I designed the experience around three core psychological levers:

1. Invite-Only Onboarding (Conversion)

Exclusivity transforms a standard purchase into an earned status symbol, sparking immediate parent pride.

2. Gamified Quizzes & Personalization (Retention)

Tailored difficulty curves keep students in the "Flow State" — avoiding boredom while preventing frustration.

3. School Learning Index (Commitment)

Students adopt a "High-Performer" persona they want to protect, elevating platform retention and daily active usage.

04

Solution & Core Product Flows

1. High-Stakes Onboarding: I designed a formal commitment flow. Students aren't just "given" access; they are "invited." This creates a sense of achievement before the student even begins their first lesson.

2. The School Learning Index (SLI) Dashboard: The SLI was designed to be the "Pulse" of the student's performance. Instead of a punitive score, the SLI uses growth-focused visualizations to show progress.

3. Adaptive Learning Paths: The UI dynamically adapts to the student's pace, unlocking advanced challenge modules and feedback loops that aren't available in standard tracks.

Business Impact & Key Learnings

The feature launch demonstrated immediate traction across partner schools:

Qualitative Feedback

School leaders reported a marked increase in student motivation, with the "Invite-Only" tag acting as a primary driver for platform daily active usage (DAU).

Prestige UX Drives Conversion

Framing educational subscriptions as exclusive cohorts significantly increases parent willingness to pay.

Personalization at Scale

Even among top-tier students, pacing varies widely. Providing flexible paths prevents student burnout.
